Example Nine:

This is Gerald trying to talk his mom into wanting to leave Jordan. He tries to be as gentile as possible, but Monique lashes out violently and leaves the room.

He can see that Monique does not want (or have the courage to) leave Jordan.

In this example, Gerald is trying to be understanding. He could have gone and asked her again, or tried to persuade her more offensively, but he doesn't. He is one who respects someone's decision, so he decides not to talk about it, nor anything more complicated than "mashed potatoes."
